Board of Assessment Review MemberMeetings
- Fourth Tuesday of May at Town Hall
In accordance with Section 523 of the Real Property Tax law all local governments of a town and/or village, that is a local assessing unit, shall appoint a three to five person Board of Assessment Review (BAR). The job of the board is to hear any person who is aggrieved by the assessment that has been placed on their property or the removal / denial of any real property tax exemption.
At the meeting, the property owner or an authorized representative has the opportunity to submit a RP-524 grievance form entitled Complaint on Real Property Assessment and supporting documentation, which the BAR will base their decision whether to lower an assessment or grant a real property tax exemption. Additional information is available at the NYS Real Property Tax Service website or a document prepared by the Town entitled BAR How To Prepare.
A complaint to the Board of Assessment Review is a prerequisite to judicial review of an assessment.
This position receives a stipend of $400/year, and is for a 5-year term
Board of Ethics Member
Meetings are as needed – no set schedule
- This is a five year term appointment.
The Board of Ethics is an independent body established to allow a Town Employee, Board Member, or Committee Member to request an opinion on a matter of interest to him/her. The Board of Ethics is independent, and does not take direction from, nor report to, the Town Board or any other governing body.
There is no stipend for this position.
Historic Advisory Committee Member
Meetings are at 7:00 pm on the First Wednesday of the month (unless otherwise noted) at Town Hall, 2nd floor Veterans Memorial Meeting Room
This is a three-year term appointment.
Responsibilities include:
- To advise, assist, and support the historian, Town Board, Planning Board, and Zoning Board in matters pertaining to Victor’s historic and archaeological resources
- To help identify and research the annual Historic Victor Plaque Program nominees
- To assist individuals in making nominations to the State and National Registers of Historic Places
- To provide assistance in securing grants that might contribute to the reuse and preservation of historic structures in the community;
- To contribute knowledge for educational materials that promote an understanding and appreciation of preserving the character of Victor, including, but not limited to walking tours, brochures, a marker program for historic properties, lectures, exhibits, and conferences.
There is no stipend for this position.
